Moonflower Seeds, Ipomea alba

$2.99

Moonflowers, or Ipomoea alba, are climbing, flowering vines that attract night-time pollinator insects, such as moths. Reaching up to 12 feet long, their dark-green heart-shaped leaves provide contrast to the large (about 6″ diameter) white flowers that appear at dusk and fade before noon the following day.

Description

Reaching up to 12 feet tall, the dark-green heart-shaped leaves of Moonflower contrast with the large (about 6″ diameter) white flowers that appear at dusk and fade before noon the following day.

Even if you’re not a night owl, you’ll be able to enjoy moonflowers in the early morning hours.

Moonflower Care

Plant moonflowers in the spring once soil temperature has reached 70°F. You can start them indoors approximately four to six weeks prior to final frost, but transplant carefully.

Moonflowers germinate in about 10 days and bloom in about 90 days. They tolerate poor, sandy soils, as long as they drain freely. They do not require fertilization to bloom.

In USDA Zones 9 – 11, Moonflowers are perennial, although they may die back with heavy frost. In temperate zones, Moonflowers are annuals but can be prolific self-seeding plants.

Moonflowers are native to Florida and will grow, spread, and reseed pretty reliably.
