Zebra Plant, Gold Vein Plant, Shrubby white vein

Sanchezia speciosa, also known as the zebra plant or shrubby white vein, is a fast-growing tropical foliage plant suitable that makes a dramatic houseplant because of its height and vivid coloring. In subtropical and tropical areas, it also makes an outstanding landscape plant. It produces beautifully striped leaves in gold and white and with adequate light, develops bright orange and yellow tropical flowers loved by bees and butterflies.

Growing up to 10-feet tall in the landscape, as a houseplant, it can reach 4-5 feet tall over time with proper care.

Care Tips for Sanchezia Speciosa

Sanchezia can tolerate more light than most houseplants, so you can place it in a bright, sunny window. This will also help it to produce flowers.

To grow indoors, plant in rich potting soil, high in organic matter. Sanchezia likes a moist environment, so mist frequently. However, it’s a good idea to let the soil dry out between waterings.

Fertilize Sanchezia every two to four weeks throughout the growing season. A “bloom booster” fertilizer that’s high in phosphorus will help improve flowering.

Pot your Sanchezia up annually, or prune back during the growing season to control the size.

To plant outdoors, choose a partially shaded area with plenty of room. Sanchezia is hardy in Zones 10 and 11 but can experience freeze damage if temperatures dip below 38F for long.
