Description

Depending on the growing conditions, Rudbeckia hirta is usually a short-lived a perennial. But they are also prolific self-seeders, if you allow the flower heads to mature.

The foliage forms a rosette of furry leaves at the bottom, while the flowers tower 2 to 2.5 feet above.

They’re easy to grow and make a cheerful addition to the garden and an excellent cut flower. They make an excellent low-maintenance container plant.

Bees, butterflies, and other insects enjoy the nectar of this North American native wildflower. They’re a favorite flower of Carpenter bees, Leaf-cutter bees, and Green Metallic bees. They’re also a host plant for caterpillars for Silvery Checkerspot and Bordered Patch butterflies. Birds often dine from the mature seeds.
