Description
Marglobe tomato was the tomato that single-handedly saved the Florida tomato industry in the early 20th century. Their heat and drought tolerance, resistance to disease, and resistance to cracking have made them the biological parent of many of the most popular and reliable hybrids on the market today.
But Marglobes were developed in 1917, and are non-GMO, heirloom varieties. They’re open-pollinated, which means you can save the seeds from your harvest and grow more year after year.
The Marglobe tomato plant is determinate, which grows to a predetermined size and produces all of its fruit at once. They grow about 48-72 inches tall, so you’ll need to provide support.
Marglobes mature in just 70-80 days, so if you plant in early fall, you can harvest fresh tomatoes before the first cold snap.
They’re resistant to fusarium, verticillium wilt, and blight.

Start tomatoes indoors or undercover to protect seedlings from extreme temperatures and heavy rains. Sow seeds in cell trays or soil blocks approximately 6-8 weeks before planting out. Sow seeds about 1/4 inch deep and keep the soil mix moist with misting or bottom watering until germination occurs. Keep warm at about 70°F to 80°F.
