Tam Dew is the perfect mini-melon that won’t have you struggling to find room in the fridge.

It’s easy to know when Tam Dew is ready to pick because the outer rind turns ivory when it’s ripe.

Starting Indoors
  • To start indoors or under cover, use soil blocks or starter trays with large cells.
  • Use a seed starting mix that is not too dense or heavy.
  • Sow seeds about 1 inch deep
  • Keep soil moist with misting or bottom watering until germination occurs.
  • Keep warm at about 70°F to 80°F.
  • Prepare to plant out into the garden in about 4 to 5 weeks.
  • Meanwhile, prepare soil in the garden by amending with plenty of organic matter
  • Once roots have populated the starting medium and the plant has two or more sets of true leaves, plant into the garden or a large container (3-5 gallons recommended).
Sow Directly
  • Prepare the soil by forming low mounds in the garden about 2 feet apart.
  • Form the raised mounds using plenty of organic matter into the mound, such as compost or composted manure.
  • Sow one or two seeds per mound, about 1 inch deep.
  • Water mounds well and mist daily until germination occurs.
