Tuscano Kale is a standby in the winter garden. Also known as “Dinosaur Kale” it’s an easy-to-grow vegetable that’s packed with nutrition. Black Magic Kale is a heat-resistant variety that stands up to Southern heat and humidity.

This “Black Magic” variety is improved, with wider leaves and a deeper coloring. It’s also more heat resistant than other Tuscano kales, so if you live in Zones 9-12, you’ll find the way it stands up to our hotter climate really does seem like Black Magic.

Fall and winter are the perfect times to grow any kind of kale, especially in the South or Southwest. But you don’t have to wait till November to plant Black Magic Kale if you live in a hot climate.

This non-GMO heirloom variety produces fresh leafy greens in just 65-80 days, too.

Remove larger, more mature leaves for cooking and the plant will regenerate for months of abundant greens throughout the fall and winter.

Black Magic Kale Growing Instructions

• For best results, sow seeds in cells or soil blocks about 6-8 weeks before planting out.
• Use a light seed sowing mix and plant seeds about 1/4 inch deep.
• Keep soil moist with misting or bottom watering until germination.
• Keep at about 65°F to 80°F.
• Germinates in approximately 4 to 7 days.
• Plant into the garden or larger container once plant has developed several sets of true leaves.
• Provide with a slow-release organic fertilizer to help plant establish.
• Keep soil moist during the first week after planting out and then provide at least 1 inch of water per week or as required by your local conditions.
• Mulching the root zone will help to retain moisture.
• Feed plants diluted nitrogen-rich fertilizer during active growth if desired.

Begin harvesting individual leaves and harvest as necessary.
