Description

This fresh, vibrant mix of salad greens is perfect for fall and winter gardening.

Fall and winter are the perfect times to grow lettuce in the South or Southwest. These tender plants prefer the cooler weather, but it’s sometimes hard to find fresh vegetable seeds.

It seems that just when it’s time to plant your fall garden, local home centers have removed all the garden goodies from the shelves to make room for holiday decorations.

That’s why we’ve added a new selection of vegetable seeds just for Zones 8-11. We’ve chosen heat-tolerant varieties for the South and Southwest, as well as seeds suited for fall and winter gardening in subtropical climates.

Mesclun mix cut-and-come-again salad lettuces are comprised of non-GMO, heirloom salad seeds, with a variety of colorful lettuces.

This gourmet mix includes bright and flavorful varieties such as arugula, spinach, Swiss chard, endive, kale, mustards, and lettuces for salads and garnishes.

Harvest when leaves are small and tender for delicious salads. Removing select leaves that are more mature allows the plants to regenerate for months of abundant greens throughout the fall and winter.

Our family succession-sows Mesclun mix in containers, seeding two or three 10-12″ planters every couple of days until we have 10 or 15 pots growing at any given time. This allows us to harvest fresh salads for meals several times a week from September through April.

When you consider the cost of buying spring mix or other salad mixes from the grocery store, we end up saving literally hundreds of food dollars by growing our own.
