Description

Jericho Romaine Lettuce was developed in Israel for growing in its hot, arid climate, so it will surely stand up to the heat in the South or Southwest.

This fresh, crisp Cos lettuce variety is the perfect choice for hot climate gardens in Zones 8 – 12. It is bolt resistant and resistant to downy mildew and powdery mildew.

Best of all, it’s a cut-and-come-again variety so you can harvest the mature leaves and the plant will continue to grow.

Fall and winter are the perfect times to grow lettuce in the South or Southwest.

This cut-and-come-again lettuce is bright green and super crisp. These are non-GMO, heirloom cos lettuce seeds, that produce baby greens in 26 days or 56 days for full heads.

This heat-tolerant lettuce was developed to withstand the intense heat of the Middle East and Mediterranean region while still remaining sweet and crisp.

We’ve grown this variety for our family for several years, and it performs like a champ from fall till summer heat, even in Zone 10a.

Jericho Romaine Growing Instructions

For best results, sow when temperatures are consistently below 80°F or start indoors

For cut and come again:
Prepare garden bed or container soil
Use compost and/or balanced slow-release fertilizer.
Fluff soil and sprinkle seeds widely and lightly in garden rows or containers to provide space for plants to grow.
Cover very lightly with soil and press down gently.
Mist garden beds and keep the soil moist until germination
After germination, thin seeds to 6″ in garden rows, 3-4″ in containers
Continue to water regularly and prevent excess sun exposure during hot weather
Begin harvesting individual leaves at 4″ or bigger after 35 days
Harvest as necessary
You can feed plants with a diluted nitrogen-rich fertilizer during active growth if desired.

To grow full-size heads:

Start indoors
Fill seed tray cells with moist seed starting mix or use soil blocks
Drop 2-3 seeds into each compartment or block
Cover lightly with soil and press down gently.
Mist and keep the soil moist until germination
After germination, thin seeds to 1 per compartment
Provide with a dilute nitrogen-rich fertilizer if not contained in seed starting mix
Once plant has developed several sets of true leaves and is 4″ or larger, plant out into a prepared garden bed, spacing at least 10-12″ per head
Continue to water regularly and prevent excess sun exposure during hot weather
Plant should mature and form heads approximately 40 days after planting out
Harvest as necessary

You can feed plants with a diluted nitrogen-rich fertilizer during active growth if desired.
