Description
Red Russian Kale has to be one of the prettiest plants in the vegetable garden. With its reddish blush and frilly leaves, it’s almost fit for a flower arrangement. It isn’t your run-of-the-mill “Kale” either. It’s actually a different plant than most of the kales you see.
It’s far more tender than regular kale, much more tender, and much sweeter. You can even eat it raw in salads.
Fall and winter are the perfect times to grow any kind of kale in the South or Southwest. These tender plants prefer cooler weather.
This non-GMO heirloom variety produces fresh leafy greens in only 50-60 days, too.
Harvest when leaves are small and tender for delicious salads.
Remove larger, more mature leaves for cooking and the plant will regenerate for months of abundant greens throughout the fall and winter.

For best results, sow seeds in cells or soil blocks about 6-8 weeks before planting out. Use a light seed sowing mix and plant seeds about 1/3 – 1/2 inch deep. Keep soil moist with misting or bottom watering until germination. Keep at about 60°F to 70°F.
Begin harvesting individual leaves at 4″ or bigger and harvest as necessary.
