Cautions

Ammi majus may be toxic to cats, dogs, and horses. Sap from the Ammi majus can cause skin irritation, so use gloves when handling.

Tips for Growing False Queen Anne’s Lace

Direct sow in early spring in full sun or partial shade in a well-draining garden bed. Water area to be planted well and sow thinly. Cover with a dusting of compost or soil and press into soil. Ammi majus requires light to germinate. Keep soil moist until germination, about 7-21 days.

Alternatively, sow in seed trays up to 7 weeks before the date of last frost. Harden off before planting in the garden.

Plant or thin to approximately 12 inches apart and keep soil moist until plant is well established. In poor soils, add a layer of compost or organic matter. Water weekly and as needed and deadhead flowers to encourage blooming through fall.

Harvest cut flowers when open about 1/3 of the way. For dried flowers, allow umbels to dry on stems. You can allow Ammi majus to reseed itself if desired by leaving flowers to mature and dry on the plant. Shake dried flowers into the soil in the spring to spread seed.
