Tips for Growing Zinnias
Plant zinnia (Zinnia elegans) seeds in a sunny location at least 6 inches apart in your flower bed and cover with a light covering of soil. Water in well and keep moist until germination. Seeds should germinate in 7 to 14 days and bloom within 60.
You can also start them indoors about 4 weeks before planting out. Use generously sized cell trays to prevent rushing the transition or damaging roots. Plant about ¼ deep and cover with perlite or starting medium. When plants develop true leaves, begin hardening off.
Plant out at least 6 inches apart and water in well. These tall flowers may require some support. Avoid overwatering to prevent flopping and powdery mildew. Deadhead regularly to increase bloom production.
