Description

Blue Sage is reminiscent of lavender, except that it thrives in the South and in hot, humid climates. It’s also easy to care for and will grow in nearly any type of soil, including poor ones. Blue salvia is drought tolerant and needs little watering.

Benefits of Blue Salvia

• Attracts bees and butterflies
• Loved by hummingbirds
• Goldfinches enjoy the seeds
• Drought tolerant
• Low nutritional requirements
• Tolerates poor soil
• Blooms from early spring through frost

Tips for Growing Blue Salvia

Direct sow blue sage in the garden in full sun in a well-draining area after all chance of frost has passed. Water the area before sowing and then cover very lightly, pressing seeds into the soil. Keep soil moist to hasten germination.
If sowing indoors, press seeds into moist seed mix in cell trays and provide plenty of light. Plant outdoors once final frost date has passed and plant has developed true leaves.
Grow in full sun and water as needed to keep plant hydrated. But avoid any boggy areas – blue sage needs free-draining, even sandy soil.
Space blue sage about 18 inches apart for best results. Deadhead flowers as they fade or use for cut flowers indoors.
