Tips for Growing Liatris Spicata
Sow blazing stars seeds in the fall in warm regions or in the early spring in temperate zones. Direct sow 8 weeks before the first frost date in fall or 6 – 8 weeks before the last frost date in spring.
You can also plant seeds in cell trays indoors at 65-75 degrees but note that blazing stars can take up to 45 days to germinate. As perennials, they also may not flower until their second year.
Prepare the garden bed with organic matter and water well. Scatter seed lightly and press into soil. Sprinkle on soil or vermiculite to keep seeds in place. Keep the bed moist until seeds germinate.
